Furthering the quest for country locally manufactured products, Edwin’s “Made In Japan” range of denim offers a premium option.
Premium in that the clothing is traditionally crafted using denim sourced from world renowned Japanese mills such as Nihon Menu, Kaihara and Kurabo. The jeans are then produced at the brand’s own Akita Hose factory.
Offering a range of denim such as selvedge (rinsed, unwashed), stretch denim and different fits (straight, tapered, skinny in regular, slim and loose) and colours there is a good range to choose from.
From my experience they fit well, use quality fabrics, stitching and hardware and are reasonably long lasting. As ever with premium selvedge fabric, wash very carefully after a bit of research on the best process!
The Made in Japan range is characterised by the inclusion of a Japan Flag on the internal rear label, to distinguish them from the lower priced Edwin Europe offering.
Stockists of the range tend to be the more premium menswear online retailers or alternatively, try the Edwin Europe website where you can often pick up some of the higher priced selvedge products at a considerable discount.
“Fun” fact: The name Edwin was derived from an anagram of the word Denim, with the ‘m” inverted to form a ‘w’!
